What is a Golf Ball Drop?

The sky is falling….or are those thousands of little white golf balls we see?  Worry not…the sky is not falling.  Those are, indeed, thousands of golf balls dropping out of the clear blue sky to benefit the hundreds of kiddos and their families staying at the Ronald McDonald House this year.

On Friday, October 5^th, close to 3,000 golf balls will be dropped, en masse, from a fire truck ladder at the Westward Ho Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as a part of the 3^rd annual Ronald McDonald House Fire-in-the-Hole Golf Ball Drop. One of them might have your name on it, and if that ball lands in the hole, it could reward you with $1,000.00, $500.00 or $250.00 dollars.  The hole is only big enough for three balls, and the first, second and third ball to drop inside win the listed dollar amounts.  It's likely the most fun you'll ever have at a golf course without swinging a club! 

The ball drop from Sioux Falls Fire Truck #3 fire fighting ladder is sure to draw a captive, spellbound crowd.  The drop is scheduled to happen at 6:45pm.  Don’t be late!  The drop happens fast and you don’t want to miss it when those firefighters pull that all important string releasing the balls in mid-air.  There is no charge to watch the drop, everyone is invited (children and adults.)  Attendees must be 21, however, to get into the rest of the event, ie: the social hour, auction and dance inside the Westward Ho.  The night will go like this:

      Social Hour (inside Westward Ho):   5:30-6:30pm   
      (Must be 21)

      Golf Ball Drop(outside at the Westward Ho):   6:45pm  
      Open to the Public

      Food, Fun and the Rude Band (Inside the Westward Ho):  
      7:00-11pm  (Must be 21)

While you don’t need to be present to the golf ball drop contest, you will need to buy balls prior to the event to win! J Event tickets are $40 each, “raffle balls” are available for $5 each.  Both can be purchased online at the Ronald McDonald House Charities web site or at the 825 S.
